How is a gum disease initiated?

Most people do not brush their teeth regularly and those who do, do not follow the right technique. Under oral conditions, a sticky layer called plaque is formed around the teeth. It is harmless if removed with regular brushing. However, if the plaques accumulate in your mouth for more than 48 hours it starts harboring bacteria that even the saliva cannot rinse off- because it sticks to the layer invading the teeth and your gums.

The plaque turns into a pale yellow, rock hard layer called calculus and the real problem begins. This calculus will not be removed by brushing, no matter how good you are at it. The bacteria make their home beneath the calculus and instigate the dental problems by causing attacks and “suffocating” the teeth and the gums.

The most common gum diseases are gum bleeding, gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth mobility and often tooth loss.

To help patients combat gum diseases and improve their oral hygiene Dr. Dutt at Opulent Dental encourages them to get professional dental cleaning (scaling) done at least twice a year. A healthy smile is a happy smile.
